TJJC Etiquette

  1. Show Respect – Always bow or greet instructors and training partners when stepping on and off the mat.

  2. Arrive on Time – Try to arrive early; if you're late, wait at the edge of the mat until the instructor invites you to join.

  3. Keep Yourself and Your Gi Clean – Maintain good hygiene, trim your nails, and wear a clean uniform to every class.

  4. No Shoes on the Mat – Mats must stay clean for everyone’s safety. Wear sandals or shoes off the mat and wear shoes in the bathroom.

  5. Tap Early, Tap Often – Safety comes first. If you’re caught, tap and reset—there’s no shame in learning.

  6. Be a Good Partner – Train at your partner’s pace, communicate, and prioritize control over strength.

  7. Respect All Ranks - Respecting the gym hierarchy maintains order and honors the journey of everyone on the mat.

  8. Leave Your Ego at the Door – Everyone is here to learn. Stay humble and open to growth.
